Cantilever racks are also known as support racks, long racks are a popular solution that allows for optimal use of free warehouse space. I Their simple, solid structure and modular design make them a great choice for storing long, heavy and unusual items.

Properly selected, they will also work well in other applications.

How are cantilever racks constructed?

Both the base and the column of the rack are made of durable steel (HEA or IPE) I-beams. These elements are connected with screws or welds, while the beams on which the goods rest are screwed or secured with locks, and can optionally be terminated with removable stops. Additionally, vertical bracing is used to increase the stiffness of the frame structure.

Technical data

Cantilever racks are available in single and double versions, allowing goods to be stored on both sides. The columns themselves can be up to 9 meters high and are perforated every 100 mm (optionally every 50 mm), which allows you to adapt the shelf to the dimensions of the stored items. The arm length is from 600 mm to 2500 mm. The load capacity of a single bracket is up to 2,500 kg! Guides are an additional element of equipment forklifts, which make the shelf operation much easier.

Design and standards of support racks

All construction elements meet European FEM and EN standards and are compliant with ISO 9001 certification. We design them and perform static calculations using specialized software. The production process of cantilever racks is automated, which ensures high quality and repeatability of components. Each part has undergone demanding laboratory tests.

What can be stored on cantilever racks?

The popular name, i.e. long racks, comes from the log - round, large-sized wood with a minimum diameter of 200 mm and a length of at least 9 m for coniferous trees and 6 m for deciduous trees. It is therefore not surprising that they are often used for storing wood or boards. In addition, they are ideal for sheet metal, pipes, profiles and bars. Properly positioned, they will be a good choice for items with non-standard shapes, such as car parts, bodies or even complete cars.

The use of cantilever racks

The simple, solid construction means that cantilever shelves can be found in a huge number of variations and varieties. They are most often used in warehouses, but after galvanizing they can also be used outdoors and can also be roofed. Going further, you can create a self-supporting structure based on the shelves - in this case, the columns serve as load-bearing elements of the warehouse.

Long racks were designed to store long, heavy goods and often create the dominant space in the hall, but they can also be successfully used on a smaller scale. They allow for optimal use of space and easy access to goods without having to fight through them. An individual approach to the client guarantees the selection of the appropriate system adapted to the product and the room.

Using racks for logs

Typically, racking systems are adapted to be operated by a crane or forklifts, which is crucial when loading in the case of massive, unusually shaped items. Another way is to use shelves to create mezzanine, which will allow employees direct access to all levels. This design will work perfectly in a high room where smaller goods are stored.

Cantilever racks – advantages

Simplicity, modular design and great adjustability translate into a number of features that have a positive impact on the efficiency of the warehouse. The most important of them are:

  • Full use of the volume of the yard or warehouse - no more air storage!
  • Easy access to goods, which translates into quick service and inventory control.
  • Safe, hassle-free storage of long and heavy products.
  • Possibility of fully adapting the storage system to the customer's needs and capabilities.
  • The design of cantilever racks allows other structures, such as roofs, covers or mezzanines, to be supported on them.
  • You can easily reorganize the brackets yourself, adapting the shelf to changing goods.
  • Standardization allows for expansion or modifications - converting a single shelf into a double one, adding additional brackets or even installing a mezzanine.
  • Can be operated manually, by crane or forklift.

Are cantilever shelves a good solution for me?

If you want to store long and heavy materials, such as bars or wood - the matter is clear. In the case of other goods, it is worth comparing the features of cantilever racks with other storage methods we offer. We tailor each of our projects to the client's needs after thoroughly familiarizing ourselves with the profile of their business and the place where the warehouse racks are to be intended. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

more about cantilever racks

What material do we store on a cantilever rack?

We use cantilever racks to store oversized and long elements, such as profiles, flat bars, pipes, bars, beams, sheets.

How is a cantilever rack constructed?

The structure is made of columns, footings, transoms, braces, arms and connectors.

What material is the cantilever rack made of?

The columns are made of an IPE I-beam, and the arms are made of an IPE profile or I-beam, depending on the load calculations.

Can the storage levels in the racks be adjusted?

Yes, the rack poles have perforations every 100mm, which allows you to freely move the arms up or down.

What is the longest arm that can be installed in a cantilever rack?

The longest arm that can be produced is up to 2500 mm.

We adjust the length of the arms to the dimensions of the material that will be stored on them.

What is the minimum distance between levels?

The minimum distance between the suspended arms is 200 mm.

Remember to also maintain the height between levels for the work needed to place and remove material from the rack arms.

Pallet racks or cantilever racks, which type is best?

We adapt the type of shelf to the material that we will store on the shelf.

If the goods to be stored are pallets, a pallet rack will work best, but if they are long elements, i.e. profiles, flat bars, pipes, etc., a rack for long beams, i.e. a cantilever rack, will be the best choice.

The design of such a shelf allows long materials to be stored, placed freely on the arms and removed by the trolley operator.

What length of material can we store on a cantilever rack?

The specificity of this type of rack is that it can be easily adjusted to the required length of the stored material by using appropriate spacing between the columns.

The entire shelf can be adapted to the individual needs of the customer, the only limitation is space.

Painted or galvanized shelf?

We use painted shelves inside the warehouse and hot-dip galvanized ones outside, because the galvanized coating is more resistant to external conditions, such as snow and rain.

How to protect round elements, e.g. pipes?

As additional protection, you can use pins - which in the form of a tube are mounted at the end of the arms - we place them in a specially prepared hole, they protect the round elements from rolling off the bracket arms.
